The accommodation in Punta Cana is incredibly rich and although the resort is not one of the cheapest, everyone is able to find something for themselves.

Besides the beautiful beaches, Punta Cana is a paradise for people who love to party. Here is one of the three Coco Bongo in the world located. This amazing show attracts many tourists.

Punta Cana has 32 km of beaches, so it is an ideal place for those who love to relax on the sand or in the water.

Personal thoughts

Punta Cana was the second place we visited during our Dominican Republic trip. The place has a reputation as one of the best places to vacation in the Dominican Republic.

And indeed, if you’re looking for a relaxing vacation, Punta Cana may be for you. The beaches in Punta Cana are wide and the water is clear and refreshing. It’s an ideal place to completely disconnect from reality and enjoy the beach life.

The only problem with Punta Cana is that many beach areas belong to hotels. Although Dominicans like to proudly boast that all beaches are public, our local experience was a bit different. We were often turned back because we were not hotel guests. Nevertheless, there are some beaches that welcome all visitors. And some hotels will also let you lie on their sunbeds in exchange for some consumption.

Things to do in Punta Cana

#1 Beaches

Los Corales

The widest of the three beaches, you’ll find plenty of room to relax, and several restaurants where everyone is sure to find something to their liking.

Playa Cortesito

A rather long and narrow beach, but here too you will find a place to relax, both on the sand and under some trees growing on the beach. On this beach you will also find bars offering drinks and beverages, as well as restaurants with delicious food.

#2 Coco Bongo

Located in the downtown of Punta Cana Coco Bongo features live performances, and a party atmosphere. It’s the most famous party not only in the Dominican Republic, but in the world! This is definitely a dream place for dance lovers.

#3 Dune Baggy

This adventure is ideal for those looking for adrenaline and adventure. In Punta Cana you will find several companies organizing baggy tours through farms, plantations and beaches.

#4 Saona Island

Also from Punta Cana companys are organizing speed boat or catamaran tours to this beautiful island, but the price from Punta Cana is a bit higher than from Bayahibe. We personally did our Isla Soana Trip from Bayahibe and recommend it.

#5 Monkeyland

This attraction is great for animal lovers, especially monkeys. Tours are guided and suitable for people of all ages. However, remember that monkeys are wild animals and it is better not to mess with them. On site you will also find a small botanical garden and ziplining.

#6 The 3 Eyes National Park

This is a beautiful park located just outside the city of Santo Domingo. It contains three beautiful underground lagoons, with clear, turquoise water turtles and some fishes.

#7 Horseback riding

Depending on which tour you choose you can enjoy a moment in the tropical forest or at the beach. Some tour operators also organize sunset tours, or combine them with other activities such as ziplining or a visit to a coffee or cocoa plantation.

#8 Indigenius Eyes Ecological Park

In this fifteen thousand acre natural reserve you’ll experience incredible greenery and twelve saltwater lagoons with the possibility of swimming. In addition to the lagoons you will also find hiking trails and a petting zoo.

#9 Whale Watching in Samana

During the season from December to March you can admire these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat. The whales go every year to the Samana peninsula to give birth to their young.

How to visit Punta Cana

The easiest way to get to Punta Cana is to take a direct flight to the Punta Cana airport. If you choose to stay at a hotel, hotels often arrange transportation to and from the airport for an additional fee. This is certainly the easiest way.

If you are staying in an Airbnb, Uber can help, but here you need to be careful because the drivers like to cheat and often overcharge for the ride, often even twice. In this case, cancel the ride and search until you get to a fair driver.

Getting around Punta Cana

You can get to most places here easily on foot. The beaches are located next to each other, so you can walk along the seashore. If you decide to go on one of the tours, the provider usually also provides transportation from and to the hotel. In all the other options, you can easily get there by Uber.

Where to stay in Punta Cana

Our apartment in Bávaro was located in the center of Bávaro. The nearest beach was about 10 minutes by foot, and restaurants were located literally as soon as we left the building.
