The volcano, which was active for the last time in 1707, can be easily viewed from many places around Tokyo. Fuji, for example, can be viewed from Motohakone, the Five Fuji Lakes, the Fuji River, Fujikawaguchiko or Fujiyoshida. Depending on what you like. Our personal favorite place and probably the most popular vantage point is the Chureito Pagoda .
Fantastically beautiful!
The Chureito Pagoda is relatively easy to reach from Tokyo. You can either use apps like Google Maps to find your preferred route, or take the bus at the Shinjuku Expressway Bus Terminal in Tokyo, take the bus for about 2 hours and get off at Chuodo Shimo Yoshida.
Arrived at the bus stop Chuodo Shimo Yoshida, you don’t have to be scared by their appearance. It is a normal small bus stop with almost not a soul on site. It’s okay, you didn’t do anything wrong. Just get out, go through the underpass and continue on the side road parallel to the road towards the Chureito Pagoda. After a few meters you should already see the first signs leading you to the viewpoint. You have to walk for about 15-20 minutes to get the worthwhile view.
Even before you reach the top of the viewpoint, you will quickly get the feeling that you are on the right track. Red gates welcome you early enough.
Now you are spoilt for choice. Do you want to walk up the street or take the more than 400 stairs? I recommend the stairs because they lead a little faster to your destination. At the top, the beautiful Chureito Pagoda awaits you. Next to it is a viewing platform where you can take an unforgettable photo or just enjoy the moment.
The view of Mount Fuji with the Chureito Pagoda in front of it is a dream. I get a grin on my face every time I think about it. The entrance is free and always open. The view is priceless. Enjoy the time here as long as you like.
Although Mount Fuji is huge and overwhelming, he is rather shy. On only about 120 days per year it shows itself to the visitors. Otherwise it likes to hide behind thick fog or huge clouds.
To increase your chances of a perfect view, it is best to plan your trip in the winter months. The best months for this are October to February. And even then you should choose a sunny day. It may well be that you have chosen an actually perfect day and the volcano Fuji is hiding again when you arrive. Be patient, because a few clouds later it rewards you for your patience and presents itself in full beauty.
