Luxembourg was on our list for a long time and yet we never took the step to pack our bags and go. Even before our visit, it was questionable whether we would actually make it there. But we pulled ourselves together and experienced a city and a country that surprised us in so many positive ways.

The center of the city is fascinating. Countless bars and restaurants offer endless possibilities to have a good time on the spot. And afterwards, the many streets offer a perfect way to discover the capital.

Surrounded by the city walls, there is much to discover here. Be it, for example, the Casemates, a kind of caves and passages carved into the rock, dating back to the 17th century. Or the Panoramic Elevator of the Pfaffenthal, which connects the lower part of the town with the upper. A ride on your discovery tour is worthwhile to explore both parts of the city and to see from above.

If you need to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life, the Parc Fondation Pescatore is perfect for that. It is a beautiful park in the middle of the city, which invites you to relax.

Grund is one of the oldest districts in the capital. Originally, mainly craftsmen lived here, who used the river water to practice their profession. From the outside, however, the district does not look old, as it fell into disrepair in the eighties and began to be restored in the nineties. Nevertheless, it is a particularly beautiful and historically important district of Luxembourg.

Just 50 kilometers outside the city, near the German border is the beautiful Vianden Castle. An excellent opportunity to see more of Luxembourg outside the capital.

The castle enchants visitors with its medieval appearance and gives a glimpse of what life must have been like back then. Even today, the castle is used for high state visits, as can be seen from the numerous photos in the castle. The entrance fee is $10 per person.

In Luxembourg you can find a great number of culinary diversity. Since we were only there for a time, we could not discover everything. Nevertheless, we did not miss the opportunity to fill our bellies with delicious food.

Depending on where you are coming from, traveling by plane is probably the fastest and most practical way to get to Luxembourg. Once you arrive, you can take a cab to the city center. The trip takes about 15 minutes, by public transport you have to calculate about 25-30 minutes. Cheaper transportation services such as Uber were not available at the time of our stay.

Luxembourg is in the middle of Central Europe. For example, we took the 5 hour drive, as any door-to-door plane trip would take longer. If you don’t live too far away, this is certainly an option that is certainly exciting and can be a little road trip.

Once in Luxembourg, the perfect way to travel within the capital is by public transport. Buses run at regular intervals and are provided free of charge for all.

We stayed at a beautiful Airbnb in Lëtzebuerg and can highly recommend it.

Luxembourg is certainly not one of the affordable countries due to their wealth. Nevertheless, we did not find the local prices to be overly expensive.

The prices are per person, except for the accommodation, which we rent for 2 people.
