Personal thoughts

Langkawi Island was our last stop during our month-long Malaysia trip. So it was the perfect place to relax before our next trip to new destination.

On the island we opted for lounging on the beach, as well as a little adrenaline rush in the form of one of the steepest cable cars in the world „Sky Cab“ and the amazing „Sky Bridge“, which was definitely our highlight in Langkawi.

Although the weather during our stay on the island was not among the best, we tried to squeeze as much as we could out of this trip.

Things to do on Langkawi

#1 “Sky Cab” Cable Car

One of the most popular attractions on the island is the amazing “Sky Cab” – mountain cable car leading to the “Sky Bridge”. The cable car leads to one of the highest mountains on Langkawi, and the viewing platform is as high as 708 meters above sea level.

The views during the ride up the mountain are amazing, plus it’s a nice adrenaline rush. The cable car was made in Switzerland, so you can fully waft it and enjoy this amazing ride.

The “Sky Cab” ride costs $18.50 (MYR 85) per person, but the views are worth any money.

Tip: Make sure to buy your tickets in advance at Klook , so you can save some money.

#2 Sky Bridge

Although your tour could theoretically end only at the “Sky Cab”, you shouldn’t miss to experience the “Sky Bridge”. It is the highlight of Langkawi, from where you will enjoy the most beautiful views on Langkawi.

“Sky Bridge” is an amazing suspended bridge between two peeks from where you can enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding jungle, mountains and even the ocean in the distance. Be sure to take a walk along it. “Sky Bridge” is located at an altitude of 650 meters above sea level.

There is a “Sky Glide” leading to the “Sky Bridge” from the “Sky Cab”. 😅 (It’s easy to get lost in all these “Sky” but on the spot everything is well described.) The cost of the “Sky Glide”, which is a kind of an elevator, is $3.50 (MYR 16) per person, but if you prefer to walk a piece, the other option is to walk to the „Sky Bridge“ for $1.50 (MYR 7).

Tip: „Sky Bridge“ is really popular among tourists as well as locals, so be sure to be here as soon as the „Sky Cab“ opens, which is at 9.

#3 Oriental Village

After exiting the „Sky Cab“ (or before entering) you will come across Oriental Village, a place that looks like it was made entirely for tourists. Full of colorful buildings, a pond with fish, several restaurants and souvenir stores.

In Oriental Village, in addition to a little shopping or having lunch in one of the restaurants, you can also feed the fish. There are several booths around the pond where, if you drop a coin, you will receive a bag full of fish food.

During your walk you will also come across a few Instagram spots, such as a charming bridge with a canopy made of colorful umbrellas.

#4 Pantai Cenang Beach

This long and wide beach is the main and largest beach on Langkawi. The sand here is incredibly soft and the water is refreshing.

Along the entire length of the beach there are several restaurants, as well as places where you can rent a jet ski or buy tickets for a sunset cruise. For the more daring there are such attractions as paragliding.

Pantai Cenang Beach is popular with tourists, so you’ll also find beach bars offering beach chairs and umbrellas, as well as cold drinks.

#5 Tanjung Rhu Beach

Tanjung Rhu Beach is located on the nothern side of Langkawi and is far less popular than the aforementioned Pantai Cenang Beach, but here too you’ll find activities such as jet skis and kayaks.

On site you can also rent beach chairs and umbrella for as little as $8.80 (MYR 40). For the hungry or thirsty, on this almost wild beach there is also a small bar with drinks and snacks.

Tanjung Rhu Beach is very quiet, practically empty most of the time. So if this vibe is close to your heart, then this place is perfect for you.

#6 Pantai Kok Beach

Pantai Kok is a completely wild beach, except for one restaurant serving coconuts and local delicacies, there are no facilities for tourists here. You can be sure that except for you and maybe two or three other tourists the beach will be completely empty.

The sand on this beach is incredibly soft and the water is clear, with the added charm of the mini islands scattered across the Andaman See visible from the shore. A little further where the public beach ends, there is an exclusive Ritz Carlton hotel with a private beach.

#7 Eagle Square – Dataran Lang

Popular among locals and tourists alike, Eagle Square is the perfect place for an afternoon stroll or watching the sunset. The main element that attracts people to this square is the huge brown eagel, which is the hallmark of Langkawi.

Eagle Square fills up during sunset as well as after dark, an ideal time because the sun is no longer high in the sky and does not heat up as much.

Where to stay on Langkawi

Langkawi has a plenty of hotels and hostels. If you want to be centrally located at the biggest beach, choose one of the hotels near Pantai Cenang Beach.

Thanks to this location you can reach not only the most beautiful beach on the island, but also many bars, restaurants and numerous souvenir and clothing stores within a few steps.

Our choice this time was the Adya Hotel Chenang , with a great location, clean and spacious rooms and friendly staff.
