#1 Royal Mile

The Royal Mile is the most famous street in the Old Town and you should definitely stop by here. It is recommended to get up very early and enjoy the view without all the tourists. From about 8-9 o’clock the streets are all crowded. The Royal Mile is known for its numerous street artists, whom you could watch for hours.

#2 Edinburgh Castle

Edinburgh Castle is a historic fortress perched atop Castle Rock. With a rich and storied past, it stands as a symbol of Scottish heritage. The castle has served as a royal residence, military stronghold, and cultural landmark. The castle offers panoramic views of the city and hosts cultural events that celebrate Scottish culture.

#3 Cowgate Pubs

In the immediate vicinity of the Cowgate there are a few nice pubs in typical British style. Generally, we would call these Irish pubs. But we are not sure if Scots also call it that way? Basically, there are pubs on almost every corner in in the city. You certainly won’t stay thirsty.

#4 Calton Hill

Calton Hill is a must! And by that we really mean that you must visit this place! Otherwise you will miss the most beautiful view of Edinburgh. Once on the hill, you’ll enjoy a different side of the city.

You can lie down on the grass and just enjoy the moment. A long time ago we saw the pictures of Calton Hill and really wanted to go there. We are convinced that you will love it.

#5 Royal Botanic Garden

If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, you might like to take a trip to the Royal Botanic Garden of Edinburgh. On a huge square you can enjoy the plant world and get to know one or the other new plant at the greenhouse.

The entrance is free. If you want to stop by the glasshouse, you will have to pay $7.90 (£6.50). It’s well invested money, and by the way, there is also a smaller glasshouse with free entrance.

#6 Edinburgh’s Underworld

Edinburgh’s underworld is notorious. We are not talking about illegal activities, but about all the stories that happened under the surface in the Middle Ages.
