Personal thoughts

Chicago has surprised us in a very positive way, and despite the large number of tourists, we feel that this city is still underestimated.

In addition to a big number of tall buildings, both old and incredibly modern full of glass and metal, Chicago also offers parks and the very pleasant Navy Pier and River Walk.

On one hand, this large city is lively and metropolitan, on the other hand it can be very calm and laid back. We were completely charmed by it and hope to return there someday.

Where to stay in Chicago

Accommodation options in the windy city are really big, so you need to answer the question of whether you prefer to be in the inner city and pay more for accommodation, or whether you are able to commute downtown and pay a little less for accommodation.

We chose the second option and rented a private room in Chicago Getaway Hostel  in Lincoln Park area, which is about a 30-minute bus ride from city center. We lived in an incredibly quiet part of town, where we felt very safe, and the environment was just beautiful.

Within walking distance was the famous Lincoln Park and Lincoln Zoo. The buildings on our street were very nice and well-maintained, and nearby was the neighborhood center full of restaurants and cafes.

We also had a modest breakfast included in the price of our accommodation.

Best time to visit Chicago

The best time to visit Chicago is between either April and June when spring arrives and everything awakens to life, or September and early November when the leaves begin to fall from the trees and autumn begins.

Personally, we also think that summer is a very good time to visit. Although it is hot at times, we have never been too hot and have never regretted our decision to visit the city during summer.
