Things to Do in Budapest, Hungary

The capital of Hungary has something! inspired by all the dreamlike pictures, we wanted to visit especially the Fisherman’s Bastion and experience its special charm on the spot. Of course, Budapest offers much more to see. All these things could not be missing from our list.

Visiting Fisherman's Bastion

The Fisherman’s Bastion is especially famous for its atypical construction and unique beauty. No other place far and wide in Budapest fascinated us as much as this one. The beautiful building enchants especially in the early morning hours. Still relatively deserted, the facade shines in beautiful colors, which give a special light by the warm rays of the sun.

The view of the Danube, the Chain Bridge, as well as the Parliament building in the distance are unique and beautiful at the same time. If you want to enjoy the view from the top, you are welcome to fulfill your wish. The entrance fee to the tower starts from $5.50 (HUF 1,800), on the roof of the bastion you can get from $3 (HUF 1,000).

Of course, you can also just enjoy the view from the Fisherman’s Bastion. It’s not a big difference and you can save some money.

In Budapest, besides the Fisherman’s Bastion, there are some other great places and sights to see.

  • Wander the streets and discover sweet little alleys with their typical charm.
  • Visit the Jewish quarter and discover cool bars and great restaurants away from the mainstream.
  • Walk across the famous Chain Bridge, which connects the districts of Buda and Pest.
  • Marvel at the sight of the swanky Parliament building and the beauty itself.
  • Go shopping in the shopping mile and get a sugar shock because of too many sweets.

Everyday life in the heart of the city

Our stay took place mainly in the heart of Budapest. Both days started with a visit to Fisherman’s Bastion, as it is simply unique and incredibly beautiful. The nice thing about it is also that other sights like the Chain Bridge and the view of the Parliament building are each about 15-20 minutes walk away from it.

When we travel, we realize that chasing sights is becoming more and more of a back burner for us. It becomes more important for us to enjoy the moment, to capture beautiful moments with photos and to soak up the local life.

Relaxation in the Széchenyi Thermal Bath

If you are looking for the perfect relaxation in Budapest, a spa is the best place to be. The most famous of these is the Széchenyi Thermal Bath . A huge outdoor area and many smaller baths inside offer different possibilities for relaxation.

Those who want to be kneaded by a massage also have the opportunity to do so. The offer is large, and just like that you have to choose one of the numerous options at the entrance. We chose the normal entrance, which only includes a locker and access to all the baths. For $25 poorer it can then already start with the relaxation.

A visit to one of the many thermal baths in Budapest is a must for any authentic local visit.
